E360 lithium battery dealer

What to Look for in Your Lithium Battery Dealer

We make countless decisions over our lives, some mundane and others profound. If you’re an Overlander or an RV-lifer, those decisions could look like battery power levels and types of appliances or packing lists and where to drop your pin. One decision that can impact the rest: choosing the right lithium battery dealer. At Expion360, we value transparency, knowledge, and expertise. That’s why we’ve compiled this checklist of what to look for and what questions to ask your dealer.

First Off, What to Look for in Your Lithium Battery Dealer

Your renewable energy decision is a big deal when powering your pursuits by land or sea. As a long-term investment, you get more than your battery’s capabilities when choosing lithium iron phosphate chemistry. You’re also getting the company behind the engineering—for better or worse.

At Expion360, we encourage our customers to make informed decisions in all things. When they come to us with dozens of questions, we welcome them. And when they ask for the receipts to back up our statements, we deliver. In general, our advice is that you’re entering into a long-term partnership with your lithium battery dealer, so you should make sure your values align and you’re on the same page before committing.

To that end, the following questions can serve as your checklist when researching dealers and coming to a final decision.

Ask: What Are Your Safety Certifications?

Any lithium battery dealer worth its mettle should be able to quickly and sufficiently answer this question—no hiding behind empty promises and superficial brand comparisons. While we can’t speak for the other guys, we’ll let the data speak for itself. Before we ever conceptualized our LiFeP04 batteries, we made a company-wide promise to deliver only what we could irrefutably back up.

That said, our safety certifications include:

  • UL 1642: As the standard for manufacturing, testing, and performance, the UL 1642 covers non-rechargeable and rechargeable lithium batteries when used as power sources. Meeting this standard means the battery has a reduced risk of explosion or fire during use and injury due to these potential risk factors.
  • UL 9V-0: The standard for plastics flammability. This certification looks at a material’s tendency to extinguish or spread a flame and measures the plastic’s ignition resistance.
  • UL 1973: This is the standard measurement for auxiliary power application batteries. Overall, it ensures the safety of the energy storage systems and components, especially lithium power, conforming with low-voltage systems standards.
  • UN 3480:  As the standard for safe lithium battery transport, UN 3480 ensures lithium batteries and their components do not pose a safety risk when transported.

  • In addition to these third-party standards, all Expion360 batteries are engineered with internal fail-sales like our smart battery management system and external controls, so our customers never adventure without a safety net.

Ask: What Kind of Support Can I Expect?

The only answer should be: “Complete support backed by a readily available customer service and troubleshooting team.” Although support can come in many forms, when working with complicated components and power systems, it’s imperative to have a human-run (versus bot-run or otherwise) team to fall back on. Expion360 prides itself on being a lithium battery dealer with industry-changing support. Our U.S.-based team is available by phone ((541) 797-6714) or email (support@expion360.com) to provide advice, troubleshooting, or any other help necessary.

Ask: Do You Offer a Warranty?

Remember that part about a long-term, committed partnership? Yeah, you should be asking if that one’s quantifiable as well. Namely, does the dealer you’re considering offer a warranty on its products? If not, run.

In all seriousness, upgrading to LiFeP04 is a significant investment that should include peace of mind. Whether buying directly through the Expion360 site or through one of our certified dealers, our products are protected by a 12-year true warranty, the terms of which include:

  • 0 to 8 Years: “Within the first 8 years of the warranty period…Expion360, at its sole discretion, will repair or replace the battery and/or parts if the components in question are determined to be defective in material and/or workmanship.”
  • 8 to 10 Years: “After 8 years and up to 10 years, if the components in question are determined to be defective in material or workmanship, Expion360, at its sole discretion, deems the battery repairable. The battery will be repaired and returned. If Expion360 deems the components to not be repairable, a new, similar battery will be offered at a discount of 40% off the published market price listed at the time of the offer. The offer is valid for 60 days after a representative from Expion360 has contacted the customer with the repairability decision.”
  • 10 to 12 Years: “After 10 years and up to 12 years, if the components in question are determined to be defective in material or workmanship, and Expion360 deems the components to be repairable, the battery will be repaired and returned. If Expion360 deems the components to not be repairable, a new, similar battery will be offered at a discount of 20% off the published market price listed at the time of the offer. The offer is valid for 60 days after a representative from Expion360 has contacted the customer with the repairability decision.”

  • Which Battery is Best for My Application?

Ah, the ultimate question. If a dealer gives you an immediate answer, your red flag should pop up. The truth is, it’s nuanced. Are you building an Overlanding vehicle from the ground up? Are you upgrading the manufacturer’s battery in your RV? Or do you need a power system that can handle work from the middle of nowhere? From Overlanding and RV to marine and even golf cart power, we know a thing or two about diverse applications.

Our expert team (see above section) can help walk you through any questions you might have and narrow down which option(s) is best for your goals. When in doubt, our curated Power Systems are the ultimate “have your adventure and power it, too” option.
