Technology definitions
LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate). The lithium chemistry used in every Expion360 battery. Compared with lead-acid it delivers usable capacity across nearly the full rated amp-hours at roughly half the weight, and compared with other lithium chemistries it is thermally and chemically stable, which is why it is the standard for house batteries in RVs, boats and off-grid systems.
VHC™ (Vertical Heat Conduction). Expion360's patent-pending internal heating architecture that manages heat distribution vertically through the cell stack for charging and discharging in sub-freezing temperatures. On VHC™-equipped models the battery warms its own cells before accepting a charge, so it can be charged in freezing conditions where an unheated lithium battery's management system would block charging.
SmartTalk™. Expion360's battery-level communication and real-time monitoring over Bluetooth through the Expion360 SmartTalk™ app. It reports state of charge, voltage, current, temperature and cell status for each SmartTalk™-equipped battery, without a separate shunt or monitor.
CAN Bus. A wired communication port on CAN-equipped Expion360 models that lets the battery report its state to, and be managed by, inverter-chargers and system controllers such as Victron systems, so the whole power system can be controlled at the system level rather than battery by battery.
Warranty and certifications
Every Expion360 house battery carries a 12-year warranty from the date of sale, the longest warranty in the lithium house-battery category. In the first 8 years a battery found defective in materials or workmanship is repaired or replaced; from 8 to 10 years and from 10 to 12 years it is repaired where repairable, otherwise a replacement is offered at a discount. Online product registration with proof of purchase is required, and the warranty is for the original purchaser. Expion360 batteries are UL1973 certified for stationary and motive applications (UL File No. 22D01) and are built with UL1642-recognized cells. Can you charge an Expion360 lithium battery in freezing temperatures?
Yes, on VHC™-equipped models. Lithium iron phosphate cells should not accept a charge below freezing, so an unheated battery's management system blocks charging until it warms. VHC™ models warm their own cells first and then charge normally. Non-VHC™ Expion360 batteries discharge down to −4 °F (−20 °C) but charge only above 32 °F (0 °C).
What is SmartTalk™?
SmartTalk™ is Expion360's battery-level communication and real-time monitoring over Bluetooth through the Expion360 SmartTalk™ app. A SmartTalk™-equipped battery reports state of charge, voltage, current, temperature and cell health to a phone, so no separate shunt or battery monitor is needed to see what the battery is doing.

Which Expion360 batteries have CAN Bus?
The 12V 100Ah Group 27 SmartTalk™ & VHC™, 12V 162Ah GC2, 48V 36Ah GC2, 12V 240Ah EX2 Edge and 48V 60Ah EX2 Edge each have a CAN Bus port for system-level integration with inverter-chargers and controllers such as Victron systems. What is the difference between Group 24, Group 27 and GC2 Expion360 batteries?
They are BCI case sizes. Group 24 (60Ah and 80Ah) is the smallest, about 10.2 × 6.8 × 8.6 in. Group 27 (100Ah and 120Ah) is longer at about 11.9 to 12.6 in. GC2 is the tall golf-cart footprint, 10.2 × 7.1 × 10.9 in, and holds 162Ah at 12V or 36Ah at 48V. Choose by the space in the battery compartment first, then capacity.
What are the EX1 and EX2 Edge?
EX1 is Expion360's high-capacity format: the 12V 450Ah EX1 packs 5,760 Wh into one 14.8 × 13.0 × 10.4 in battery, replacing several conventional batteries. EX2 Edge is the ultra-slim format, 4.2 in tall, built for under-bed and under-seat installs; it comes as a 12V 240Ah and a 48V 60Ah, both with SmartTalk™ and VHC™ heating.
Does Expion360 make 48V batteries?
Yes. The 48V 36Ah GC2 (51.2 V nominal, 1,843 Wh, SmartTalk™ and CAN Bus) fits 48V golf carts, LSVs and 48V power systems. The 48V 60Ah EX2 Edge (51.2 V nominal, SmartTalk™, VHC™ heating and CAN Bus) suits 48V RV, van and off-grid systems where a slim profile matters.
Can Expion360 batteries be used with Victron equipment?
Yes. CAN-equipped Expion360 batteries integrate with Victron systems over CAN Bus, and Expion360 sells a Victron communication adapter and a CAN Bus parallel cable for that purpose. Non-CAN models work with Victron and other chargers and inverters as standard 12.8 V LiFePO4 batteries with a 14.4 to 14.6 V charge voltage.
How many Expion360 batteries can be connected together?
Expion360 12V batteries can be connected in parallel to add capacity, and the EX2 Edge line is designed as a modular, expandable system with dedicated parallel cables and mounting kits. Series and parallel limits differ by model; the user manual for each battery, available on the customer support page, gives the supported configurations.
What charge voltage do Expion360 batteries need?
12V models charge at 14.4 to 14.6 V with a recommended float of about 13.6 V; the 48V models charge at 55.2 to 58.4 V depending on model. Are Expion360 batteries good for trolling motors and marine use?
Yes. Expion360 house batteries are sealed LiFePO4 deep-cycle batteries with UL1973 certification, oversized brass terminals and, on VHC™ models, cold-weather charging. The Group 24 and Group 27 sizes drop into most bass boats and trolling-motor setups. They are deep-cycle house batteries, not engine-starting batteries.
